 Dr. Robert J. Crawford, Former ASTech Executive Director, Passes Away

 ALBERTA – Dr. Robert J. Crawford, the ASTech Foundation’s Executive Director from 1991-1998, passed away at home Tuesday, April 7. Dr. Crawford was instrumental in building ASTech’s credibility and growing the organization.

 “We are deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Crawford’s passing,” said Sue McMaster, current ASTech Foundation Executive Director. “He generously opened doors and created credibility for the awards in the early years

                 Dr. Crawford was also notable for his many roles at the University of Alberta including: Acting Dean of Science, Associate Dean of Science, Chair of Chemistry and Chair of Computing Science. In 2001, he was honoured with special ASTech Award for his work bringing Alberta science and technology to the world stage.

                 A service is tentatively planned at the University of Alberta’s Faculty Club on Saturday April 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the Winspear Room. In honour of Dr. Crawford’s legacy, the University of Alberta will be lowering its flag.

 The ASTech Foundation identifies and celebrates outstanding achievements in science and technology in Alberta and inspires future innovation and leadership. Its annual ASTech Awards, now in their 26th year, are Alberta’s highest science and technology honours. Winners of the 2015 ASTech Awards will be announced November 6, 2015 at ASTech 2.0: ACCELERATE! at TELUS Spark in Calgary.
